Buenos días 🙂 ¿Qué tal el fin de semana? El mío la verdad es que ha estado marcado por la tranquilidad y la lectura. He podido leer bastante y disfrutar de mis lecturas actuales. Hoy os vengo a hablar de un libro que leí hace poco y que estoy segura de que os va a gustar. Turno de El regreso del soldado de Rebecca West.
Jenny ha anhelado largo tiempo el regreso de su primo, Chris Baldry, desde las trincheras de la Primera Guerra Mundial. El que retorna es, sin embargo, un hombre sometido a una transformación total: tiene amnesia, no recuerda los últimos quince años y está obsesivamente enamorado de una mujer que no es su esposa Kitty, a la que ni siquiera reconoce. Sus intentos por dar sentido a la vida que tenía antes tendrán consecuencias imprevisibles para aquellas que lo aman.
Tenía bastantes ganas de leer entre libros porque había leído buenas opiniones sobre él, y además me interesaba mucho el enfoque que hace de la guerra. Es decir, no se centra en el conflicto en sí, sino en los traumas o problemas que acarrea para los soldados ser parte de alguna de ellas.
Y de eso va el libro, del refrendo de Chris Baldry de las trincheras del frente de la Primera Guerra Mundial. En casa le esperan su prima Jenny y su esposa Kitty. Ambas anhelan la llegada de Chris pero esta no se produce tal y como ellas esperaban. El joven soldado sufre de amnesia y su mente se ha quedado quince años atrás. No reconoce a su esposa y cree estar enamorado de otra mujer. Os podéis imaginar el terremoto que eso produce en la casa, en las protagonistas, pero también en el propio Chris. Poco queda del hombre que se fue a la guerra.
Con una precisión milimétrica, elegancia y profundidad, la autora nos traslada a la Inglaterra de la Primera Guerra Mundial con una vívida descripción de los traumas y emociones que son consecuencia de vivir algo tan terrible como una guerra.
Esta es precisamente la parte del libro que más me ha gustado. Toda la psicológica y análisis emocional que hay de los personajes. Rebecca West logra transmitir las tensiones internas y las luchas emocionales de manera magistral, especialmente a través del personaje de Chris. La autora aborda temas como el trauma de guerra, la memoria y el amor, ofreciendo una mirada introspectiva sobre las consecuencias de la guerra en la vida personal y familiar.
Rebecca West nació en 1892 en Londres con el nombre de Cicely Isabel Fairfield y adoptó el pseudónimo de Rebecca West en homenaje al personaje homónimo de Ibsen, una heroína rebelde. West fue aclamada como la mujer de letras más importante de su tiempo, llegando a ser nombrada dama del Imperio británico.Amiga de Virginia Woolf y de Doris Lessing, fue una feminista sui generis (con una personalidad demasiado indomable para aceptar ninguna etiqueta) y una verdadera adelantada a su tiempo: sufragista, escritora y periodista con una carrera plagada de éxitos que la llevó a cubrir, para las cabeceras más prestigiosas, desde los juicios de Núremberg hasta el Apartheid. Además de la trilogía de los Aubrey (La familia Aubrey, La noche interrumpida y La prima Rosamund), entre su producción literaria destacan obras como El regreso del soldado o Cuando los pájaros caen.
En definitiva, El regreso del soldado de Rebecca West ha sido una novela cargada de significado, con unos personajes marcados por la guerra, el dolor y la separación que esta supone. Una novela en la que, pese a todo, hay esperanza.
Lo dicho, me ha gustado mucho El regreso del soldado de Rebecca West y sin duda os lo recomiendo.
